3101 Ant Monochrome is a classic and popular chair designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1952 for Fritz Hansen. In this model, Ant comes in a modern monochrome finish in dark ash or lacquered beech veneer in black, white, or Nine Gray. The legs are powder coated in the same color as the shell. A painted finish leaves the natural structure of the wood visible, making each chair unique, while a lacquered finish makes each chair identical.
Ant has made a big mark in Danish design history and has also laid the foundations for the popular Series 7 and Gran Prix chairs. But Ant was never even to be produced. When the sketches for the chair were presented, they were met with skepticism, but Jacobsen was so confident in his design that he promised Fritz Hansen that he would buy the chairs himself if no one else did. Fortunately, Jacobsen got his way. Ant was a success and today is a well-loved chair that has been launched in several variations.
