dk3
The furniture company dk3 was established by Jacob Plejdrup In 2009, with a vision to simplify classic carpentry with modern furniture design. Plejdrup’s design combines recurring natural elements with clean and contemporary styling to create a number of dining tables and side tables. Among his recent works is the large Tree Table, which he designed in 2011.
The planks that make up the top of the Tree Table were created from 200-year-old wood that is kiln-dried for two years, then made into planks, which are then kiln-dried for a further eight weeks. The signs of nature remain in the wood, allowing the Tree Table to bring a small part of the forest into the home.
Danish design and solid craftsmanship
Wood is in fact a recurring element in the dk3 range, and the German oak that is often used is available in a variety of finishes to suit Scandinavian homes and any home interior worldwide. They are carefully selected and treated by the company’s carpenters, Morten Sundberg and Ole Kristoffersen. The dk3 range includes great designers such as Poul Cadovius and Børge Mogensen. After the Second World War, Cadovius designed the Royal System, the famous shelving system consisting of shelves and drawers placed on the wall, providing space in small or large homes alike.
Børge Mogensen is another prominent Danish designer represented in the dk3 range. Together, Mogensen, Arne Jacobsen and Hans J. Wegner elevated Danish design to an international level. Among Mogensen’s most famous works is the Shaker Table, which he designed in 1958, together with the BM1 and BM2 Chairs. In 1972, he was awarded the Honorary Royal Designer for Industry prize in London. The most important things about dk3 are the love of natural materials and focus on quality. The craftsmanship shines through from the first sketch, through the entire manufacturing process to the final result, when the carpentry is shaped into a piece that is finished by hand. The machining and craftsmanship come together to create the concept that dk3 itself calls living furniture.
