Artemide
Artemide was established by Ernesto Gismondi in Milan, Italy, in the 1960s and is today a world leader in lighting. Artemide can be found in nearly 100 countries around the world and produces functional designs for homes, offices, and public spaces.
The brand has its production in Pregnana Milanese outside Milan where every new product is polished from concept to production—to guarantee the best possible results and quality. With expertise in both traditional and modern materials, Artemide offers a variety of products for different purposes.
Award-winning Italian design
Artemide has collaborated with numerous famous designers and has won a multitude of design awards. In 1972, Richard Sapper created the Tizio work lamp, which became a major success and a multiple award-winner. The lamp is included in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art and has come to symbolize Artemide’s early, functional lighting design.
The Tolomeo adjustable lamp was created by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina in 1987. Three years later, the design duo won the prestigious Compasso d’Oro design award for the lamp and Tolomeo remains incredibly popular. Among other Italian design classics, the lamp has also becomes synonymous with “made in Italy” and can be found in homes and offices around the world.
In the 1990s, the philosophy of “The Human Light” launched with Carlotta de Bevilacqua’s appointment as vice president. A philosophy that would change the way they produce and develop their products. It is now based on the human need for light in different rooms and for different occasions in life. Bevilacqua designed the Copernico Sospensione lamp in 2011 and won the Red Dot Design Award for it. In 2015, Artemide opened a new innovation center with space for everything from product development and research, to quality testing. Many of Artemide’s products are classed as modern design icons and, even today, production continues outside Milan.
