Copernico is a pendant lamp from the collection of the same name designed in 2010 by Carlotta de Bevilacqua and Paolo Dell'Elce for Artemide. Copernico has a modern design where nine oval rings have been laser cut from a single piece of aluminium. The rings are mobile and can thus be rotated independently of each other, which changes the lamp's shape and light distribution. The 384 white LED lights mounted on the rings spread enough light to the room in which it is placed.
The inspiration for Copernicus came to Carlotta de Bevilacqua and Paolo Dell'Elce from the famous Renaissance mathematician and astronomer Nicolás Copérnico, who developed a worldview that placed the sun at the center of the universe. The Copernico lamp from Artemide is also available as a smaller version, Copernico 500.
