Antonio Citterio was born in 1950 in Meda, Italy, and works as a furniture and industrial designer. Citterio, like many other leading Italian architects and designers, was educated at the famous Polytechnic University of Milan.

At the age of 22, Citterio opened his first design studio, before he had even graduated. Over the years, he has collaborated with a number of major brands, including B&B Italia, Iittala, Flexform, Kartell and Vitra. At B&B Italia, Citterio has designed a large number of pieces under the Maxalto collection.

In 1987, Antonio Citterio founded Studio Citterio/Dwan together with Terry Dwan. They spent nine years together, during which time they designed numerous buildings throughout Europe and Japan. From 1999 onwards, Citterio ran Antonio Citterio & Partners with Patricia Viel, a design studio focusing on architecture and industrial design. Since 2009, the studio has been known as Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel & Partners. They work internationally on architecture and urban planning for both office and commercial buildings.

In 1987 and 1994 Antonio Citterio was awarded the "Compasso d'Oro". From 2006 to 2016 he has been professor of architectural design at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio. In 2000, together with Patricia Viel, he founded "Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel", a multidisciplinary practice for architecture and interior design. The firm works internationally and develops complex projects in all scales in collaboration with a qualified network of specialist consultants.

Several of Citterio's works are part of MoMA's permanent collection and are exhibited at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris. Citterio's most recent works include the Grand Repos chair, the Suita and Charles sofa and the Mera tables. In addition to furniture design, Citterio has also been involved in numerous architectural projects in Italy and abroad, including Vitra's German factory in Neuchâtel.
