Chaise Tout Bois is a chair designed by Jean Prouvé in 1941 for the Vitra brand. The chair has a seat and back made of molded plywood veneer, which can be chosen in either stained or natural oak. The wood is treated with a protective natural lacquer finish. Chaise Tout Bois is the only chair designed by Jean Prouvé that is made entirely of wood. The design of the chair is largely reminiscent of the traditional "Standard" chair, but the wooden base replaced the metal base due to metal shortages during the Second World War.The shape of the Chaise Tout Bois highlights Prouvés intention to create extra strength at the point between the seat and the backrest, where the strain from the human anatomy is greatest. In 1947, the chair won the "Meubles de France" competition, which aimed to find attractive, high-quality, mass-produced furniture to meet the needs of post-war society. Chaise Tout Bois comes with felt furniture feet for flooring but can also be supplied with plastic feet for carpet; please contact us if this is required.
