Akari 50EN is a pendant lamp from Vitra designed by the sculptor, architect and designer Isamu Noguchi in 1951. The lamp is held up by a steel wire structure and is handmade in shoji paper, which is made from the bark of the mulberry tree. Akari 50EN is part of the Akari lamp series, a series of lamps designed by Noguchi and hand-made by Japanese craftsmen. Noguchi's work is artistically linked to abstract expressionism and his style came to have a major influence on 1950s design. All light sculptures in the Akari series are marked with a logo representing the sun and the moon, which confirms the authenticity of each product.
