Akari 23A is a pendant lamp from Vitra designed by the Japanese-American sculptor, architect and designer Isamu Noguchi in 1951. The lamp is made of shoji paper, which comes from the bark of mulberry trees, and which is then strung over steel wire to give the lamp its fine shape. Akari 23A is part of the Akari lamp series, a series of lamp sculptures all designed by Noguchi and still made by hand by Japanese craftsmen. All Akari light sculptures are marked with a logo representing the sun and the moon which confirms the authenticity of each product.
