Akari 13A is a Vitra lampshade designed by Japanese-American Isamu Noguchi in 1951 as part of his Akari light sculptures. Akari 13A is, like all Akari lamps, handmade by Japanese craftsmen. The lamp's structure consists of black-lacquered steel legs and bamboo wood that hold up the lampshade, which is made of shoji paper. Shoji paper is a Japanese paper that comes from the bark of the mulberry tree. All light sculptures in the Akari series are marked with a logo representing the sun and the moon, which confirms the authenticity of each product.
