Mats Theselius is a Swedish furniture designer who was born in Stockholm in 1956. Theselius studied interior architecture at Konstfack in Stockholm from 1979 to 1984 and from 1995 to 1996 he was a professor at the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg. The following year, Mats Theselius received the Bruno Mathsson Prize and subsequently created the well-known Bruno armchair.
During his successful career, several of Theselius' pieces of furniture have been recognized and his repertoire includes the Aluminium, Inox and Star armchairs, all of which are characterized by creativity, innovative design and in different ways stand out from the crowd. Mats Theselius is also behind the National Geographic cabinet, which was designed with inspiration from the magazine of the same name and its yellow color has been stylishly matched while accommodating 25 years of the magazine.
In addition to the Bruno Mathsson Prize, Theselius has received awards such as Chair of The Year, the Dagens Nyheter design prize and in 2011 he was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts. His designs have participated in several major exhibitions around the world and his work is often referred to as being in the borderland between design and art. At Nordiska Galleriet we offer several of Mats Theselius' works and also enjoy decorating with them at our exhibitions in Stockholm and Gothenburg.
