Finn Juhl originally designed the 46 Chair for master carpenter Niels Vodder, who presented it at the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in 1946. In 1953, Finn Juhl changed the chair, making it cleaner and more aerodynamic for the furniture manufacturer Bovirke. It is this updated version that House of Finn Juhl is now re-launching. With the 46 Chair, Finn Juhl has sought to emphasize the lightness of the chair by separating the caged and supporting elements, something that has become a bit of a hallmark of his design. Thanks to modern technology, House of Finn Juhl has developed the version in an outstanding quality with stronger joints compared to the originals.
The 46 Chair is made of either oak or walnut and is upholstered with fabric or leather in various finishes. The chair is also available with armrests, which are also available at Nordiska Galleriet. Like the Chieftain Chair and 45 Chair, the 46 Chair is an excellent example of the very best in modern Danish furniture design with its skillful design and extremely high quality.
