This footstool complements the footstool, designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel design project in Copenhagen. The rounded shell was produced using a process that was very technologically advanced for its time, and Arne Jacobsen was the first to use this innovative technique. The footstool has a seat made of synthetic material which is upholstered with a cold foam for extra durable structure and comfort. The footstool is available with fabric or leather upholstery in several colors. The base is made of satin-polished steel and rests on a star-shaped base in satin-polished aluminum with black paws.
SAS Royal Hotel opened in 1960 and was the world's first design hotel, and Denmark's first skyscraper. Arne Jacobsen's interior design included the roof, whose rounded, stylish shell provided a visual contrast to the vertical and horizontal lines of the SAS Royal Hotel. Jacobsen handled the entire design concept down to the smallest detail, from the outdoor facade and the furniture to the cutlery in the restaurant. The SAS Royal Hotel has since come to be known as Jacobsen's work of art. Several Danish design icons were introduced and put Danish design on the world map.
