One of Børge Mogensen's most iconic pieces is The Hunting Chair, designed in 1950 for Fredericia Furniture. The Hunting Chair, as it is also known, was Mogensen's first piece of furniture with an exposed construction of wood and saddles - something that would later become typical of his design. The back seat is adjustable by a brass buckle. The oak frame is available in black lacquered, red lacquered, sanded, and oiled. The saddle is available in black and natural and will develop a beautiful patina over time, especially the natural vegetable leather finish.
The Hunting Chair has many similarities to the legendary Spanish chair. Although they have become symbols of the best in 20th century Danish design, they have strong influences from other cultures. Mogensen drew inspiration from British wind chairs and the American shaker movement when designing the two chairs. The use of heavily tanned leather as part of the chairs construction was taken from chairs in Spain.
