The safari chair was first exhibited in 1933 at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild exhibition. The idea for the chair originated when Kaare Klint saw some pictures from a safari, taken by an American cinematographer and his wife. These were likely influenced by the Indian Roorkhee chairs used by the British army. However, Klint's imprint is so strong that the KK47000 Safari Chair has a completely unique identity with its well-planned proportions and exquisite contrasts in its materials.
