The Riihitie Flowerpot, a product from Artek, is a design classic created by Aino Aalto around 1937. It was originally used on the terrace of Aalto's residence located on Riihitievägen in Helsinki. This pot is an expression of Aalto's philosophy that even the smallest details deserve our care and attention, just like the larger objects. It made its first public appearance at the 1937 Paris World's Fair, but was never put into mass production. On the occasion of Finland's 100th anniversary in 2017, Artek relaunched these pots in the two original designs. Each pot is handmade in ceramic, a choice of material inspired by the tiles that Alvar Aalto often used in his architectural works. The pots are offered in three different sizes intended for indoor use and are available in the colors white and blue. These colors are taken from the ceramic tiles that adorn the facade of Aalto's summer residence at Muuratsalo in Finland.
