The Model 597 Floor Lamp by Gubi, designed by Italian designer Gianfranco Frattini and first launched in 1961, is the lamp that established him as a brilliant lighting designer. The floor lamp's unique nylon fringes were inspired by both the fashion world and the fringed entrance door curtains that were common in Italian bars and grocery stores during the late 1950s. Thanks to a row of lateral lamps, the table lamps emit a 360º play of indirect light, which is softened by the fringes to create a rich ambient glow, while the reflective aluminum cover adds warmth to the uplight.
