Magnus Wästberg established the Wästberg lighting company in Helsingborg in 2008 with the ambition to create directed light and reduce the need for general lighting.

The philosophy is to create light to open people’s eyes - without blinding them. Wästberg believes in creating beautiful and functional spaces with the right lighting, creating a sense of well-being. Since its inception, little has fundamentally changed; the respect for human needs and demands remains the same. Through esthetics, innovative technology and the use of resources, lighting is created for the modern room and home.

Lighting philosophy based on manifesto

Wästberg is quickly making a name for itself thanks to collaborations with many unique designers. Among these are Inga Semp, Nendo and Ilse Crawford, all big names in the interior design industry. The well-known design trio Claesson Koivisto Rune also designs for the brand. The result was the Bell W141 lamp, which is stylish and simple, yet effective. The lamp is easy to decorate with and comes in several colors. David Chipperfield designed the Chipperfield W102, a brass table lamp that looks great in the office and in the home. Like many Wästberg products, it too is stylish and beautiful, providing an elegant glow and becoming as much an interior detail as it is functionally illuminating.

Wästberg offers everything from table lamps and ceiling lamps to floor lamps and wall lamps. All in stylish, simple designs signed by famous designers. All lamps are based on a manifesto Wästberg published in 2008, the year the company was established, called “Lamps for Neanderthal Man”. This concludes with a number of rules on which the philosophy was based. One of them was to reduce general lighting and use point lighting. Today, the same motto is followed and Wästberg manufactures and designs lighting for the modern home with the utmost care.
