637 Utrecht was designed by Gerrit T. Rietveld in 1935. The armchair was designed for the Metz&Co Department Store in Amsterdam with the idea of making a piece of furniture that would be more market adapted than before. The result was an armchair whose design is unique in its kind. The armchair is available in several textile designs with visible stitching in the blanket stitching variant. The armrests and the bottom of the seat form the only contact surface with the floor. 637 Utrecht has an original design language with futuristic elements. The straight armrests in contrast to the armchair's otherwise soft shapes characterize the design. The armchair's charm and timeless feel have made it a real classic.
