Snow Peak's journey began in 1958 when founder Yukio Yamai decided to climb Mount Tanigawa in Niigata, Japan. The aim was to create products with a focus on mountaineering and over time the brand has evolved into a fully-fledged outdoor manufacturer of top-quality outdoor clothing and camping accessories.

As the Yukios family grew, so did the company. His son Tohru succeeded him as CEO of Snow Peak in 1980 and went on to expand Snow Peak's product line, including the development of the Amenity Dome and the iconic Takibi Fire & Grill. Snow Peak later established itself in the United States and began distributing out of a garage in Oregon.
