Mika Tolvanen armchairs & poufs

Mika Tolvanen is a Finnish designer born in 1975. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2001, Tolvanen began his journey in design and in 2015 he started Studio Tolvanen together with American Julie, who also later became Tolvanen.

Studio Tolvanen is located on the island of Lauttasaari in Helsinki and through their workshop the duo designs products for both home and public environments. Their list of collaborations includes famous brands such as Muuto, FontanaArte and Zanotta. Studio Tolvanen was part of the Furnishing Utopia Project, where they designed a shelf, a table and two other objects together.

Over the years, Tolvanen has received awards such as the Bruno Mathsson Prize in 2012 and was named Finnish Designer of the Year in 2017. Mika Tolvanen's Big Hug Chair also won a prize during the celebration of Finland's 100th anniversary. Studio Tolvanen stands for the fact that good design always starts with function, as the products are always made to be used.
