Aïku Chair is a chair designed by Jean Marie Massaud for MDF Italia in 2016. The chair has an architectural elegance that is enhanced by its long narrow wedge-shaped legs. The legs match the outer rim of the seat, which is made of injection-moulded polypropylene. The backrest and seat exterior have a high-gloss lacquer while the interior has a matte texture. The Aïku Chair is available in a black and a white version, where the white has four variations of the interior and the black has two. The base is also available in different finishes with matching lacquered steel and in two oak variants. All the bases, except those in oak, are stackable.
The name Aïku comes from the Japanese word haiku, which is a poem form built on three verses. The unique rhetoric of haiku is reflected in the function and aesthetics of the chair, which can be likened to its sophisticated design that is at once minimalist and playful. For extra comfort, a cushion is available to purchase separately. Now also available is the fully upholstered version Aïku Soft Chair in the same design.
