Boris Berlin & Aleksej Iskos 1953/1965
Iskos-Berlin Design is a Copenhagen-based design duo founded in 2010 by Boris Berlin and Aleksej Iskos with the aim of creating new, eye-catching and lovable designs as a form of narrative art that includes all conceivable elements. It’s a design philosophy that has had far-reaching influence in the world of design, especially in Scandinavia.
Boris Berlin was born in St Petersburg, Leningrad in 1953. At the age of 22, he graduated from the Institute of Applied Arts and Design in St Petersburg as an industrial and graphic designer. Thereafter, he worked as a freelancer designing a wide range of industrial products, and in 1983 he moved to Denmark and started his first business, Boris Berlin Design. Meanwhile, Aleksej Iskos studied architecture at the Kharkov Civil Engineering Institute and moved to Denmark in 1991, where he studied and graduated from the Department of Industrial Design at the Danish Design School in 1996.
In 1987, Boris Berlin founded KOMPLOT Design, where Aleksej Iskos became an employee and worked with Boris for eleven years before they decided to enter into what would become a successful partnership. During their years together they received many design awards and took part in many competitions with their designs, which are now represented around the world in several design museums, with various works in the collections of the Danish Design Museum, the Danish State Art Collection and the Icelandic Museum of Design. The pendant lamp Avion from Lightyears, Fritz Hansen, is one of the lamps we have at NO GA.
The Fiber Chair from Muuto was awarded the Iconic Award in 2016: Interior Innovation – Best of Best and the chair series 5-Waves from Harvest One won the 2018 Red Dot Design Award. And those are just two of Iskos-Berlin's prestigious awards.
