Egyptian Chair is a chair designed by Finn Juhl in 1949. As the name suggests, Finn Juhl was inspired by antiquity, specifically an ancient Egyptian chair he saw at the Louver in Paris. Finn Juhl was so fascinated by the chair that he used a similar construction when designing his own Egyptian Chair. The exclusive chair is characterized by its unique craftsmanship and the mix of different cultures and design styles. The Egyptian Chair is currently manufactured by House of Finn Juhl and comes in either oak or walnut and with upholstery in fabric or leather.
The Egyptian Chair was launched at the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen alongside, among others, the iconic Chieftain Chair, or Chief’s Chair as it would also come to be known. The exhibition was a great success for Finn Juhl and would later pave the way for his international career, not least in the United States where Danish design became immensely popular in the 1950s.
