In 1964, The Spanish Dining Chair was created by Børge Mogensen for Fredericia Furniture. The chair is a fine example of the use of solid, natural materials. It is ironic that one of the most symbolic pieces of Danish design is called the Spanish chair. When Mogensen made the Spanish Dining Chair and the other chairs in the series, he drew on traditional chairs from other cultures, such as English Windsor chairs and the shaker movement in America. In Spain, sturdy leather was often used to construct the seat as part of the wooden structure, and it is from this that the furniture gets its name.
