The Eames Fiberglass Armchair DAR is part of Charles and Ray Eames' famous chair series that was launched on the market in 1950. The chair gets its charm from the molded fiberglass shell and comes in several colors to choose from. The visible fibers are an appreciated contrast to the base in black powder-coated steel. The Eames couple's multi-functional chair was first introduced at the "Low Cost Furniture Design" design competition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1948. The chair presented had a metal seat adapted to the body's shape and which could be combined with different bases, giving these seating furniture a multitude of different functions and serve different purposes. To make the chair successful, the couple had to find an alternative to the metal seat. The result was a seat made of colorless fiberglass. Today, the legendary chairs are manufactured in both fiberglass and plastic by Vitra as a revised design and choice of materials for even higher seating comfort and quality.
