Tobia Scarpa was born in 1935 in Venice, Italy. As the son of the renowned architect and designer Carlo Scarpa, Tobia grew up in an environment filled with creativity and artistic expression. He studied architecture and design at the University of Venice. After graduation, he began working with his wife and collaborator Afra Scarpa. Their partnership resulted in a range of iconic furniture and lighting solutions that are appreciated worldwide. Early in his career, he also began collaborating with some of Italy's most prestigious design companies, including Cassina – a name synonymous with high-quality Italian furniture design. 

Scarpa's Iconic Collaboration with Italian Design Houses 

Scarpa has created many iconic pieces for Cassina, including the famous Soriana sofa and Soriana armchair. This iconic series is known not only for its groundbreaking design but also for its comfort and durability, making them highly desirable in both private homes and public spaces. Tobia Scarpa has always believed that design is a profession without a rulebook. An example is the elegant Flos table lamp "Biagio," which showcases Scarpa's ability to create visually striking and technically advanced products.

Scarpa has also collaborated with Knoll, a globally recognized furniture design company. Here, he has contributed his expertise to create furniture that is both stylish and functional, with a particular emphasis on ergonomics and durability.
