Monica Förster is a furniture and industrial designer, and is one of Sweden's best-known international designers. Her designs are modern and her products are often highly unconventional. She has designed furniture for Swedese and Poltrona Frau, among others.
She was born and raised in Lapland where she became interested in design at an early age. Her first product was a lamp that she made at home in her kitchen with a borrowed vacuum oven. It was this lamp that launched her career. The lamp was named Silicone and is still being produced today. The productivity and wild imagination that generated the lamp can be recognized in several of her products, as well as her quest to find new technologies and materials. Today she is highly active and based in Stockholm.
Monica Förster has won several prestigious design awards. In 2014, the Flower Pot from Skultuna was awarded Best Window Sill by the Wallpaper Design Award and the following year Förster was awarded The Golden Chair Award by Architects Sweden. In 2018, Förster was awarded Best Interior Accessory by Elle Decoration Sweden. Förster collaborates with several well-known brands and prominent designers. A longer collaboration with Zanat has resulted in the Sana chair that was exhibited at Salone Del Mobile in Milan in 2018.
