Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake is one of Japan's most iconic fashion designers, known for his innovative and groundbreaking designs. With a career spanning several decades, Miyake has made significant contributions to the fashion world through his unique creations and techniques. His work is characterized by a deep respect for tradition, combined with a constantly exploring spirit that drives design forward. 

Issey Miyake 1938 

Issey Miyake was born in 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan. After studying graphic design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, he moved to Paris to study fashion and work with some of the biggest names in the industry. His time in Paris shaped his unique perspective on fashion, combining Western influences with Japanese traditions. In 1970, he founded Miyake Design Studio and began exploring new materials and techniques, leading to his signature style that often involves pleated fabrics and innovative textiles. 

Fashion Combined with Design 

Issey Miyake's design is characterized by a harmony between tradition and innovation. His collections include everything from clothing to accessories, and he is particularly known for his pleated garments, first introduced in the 1980s. These garments are not only visually appealing but also practical, with a flexible fit that makes them comfortable and easy to wear. Miyake's work in textile design has changed the way we view fashion and textiles, and his influence extends far beyond the fashion world. In addition to designing clothes and accessories, he has created unique Japanese design lighting for modern homes. 

Innovative Japanese Lighting 

Discover the Minomushi pendant lamp from the IN-EI series, designed by Issey Miyake and Reality Lab for Artemide in 2012. The lamp is made of PET, methacrylate, steel, and polycarbonate, making it both durable and environmentally friendly. With a height of 240 cm and a textured surface, it can fold smoothly without frames. The lamp uses 3D technology to create a harmonious interplay between light and shadows. The Minomushi is also available as a floor lamp, offering more interior design possibilities. 

The IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE series is a result of the collaboration between Miyake and Reality Lab, known for innovative clothing that can be folded flat and assume 3D shapes. Together with Artemide, they combine creativity and mathematics in their lighting solutions.
