Wilton Carlyle Dinges founded The Electric Machine and Equipment Co in 1944 in Hanover, Pennsylvania. From the beginning, the designer brand has been making furniture from local steelworkers in the small American town. Furniture production began with the iconic Navy Chair, which was designed for the US Navy. It is now a design classic, celebrated for its unique shape and sustainable design made entirely from aluminium. Even today, Emeco strives to use locally grown and recycled materials produced in a sustainable way that protects nature.
Timeless design in quality materials
The brand has made a number of design collaborations with several well-known designers such as Philippe Starck, Frank Gehry, Norman Foster, Oki Sato and Ettore Sottsass. Emeco has also collaborated with other brands. In a collaboration with Coca Cola, they jointly designed the Navy Chair made from at least 111 recycled PET bottles, saving millions of plastic bottles from landfills and oceans every year.
Emeco combines tradition and innovation to create timeless, high-quality furniture, and its commitment to sustainability permeates the entire company and its products. Every piece of furniture from Emeco is therefore carefully crafted with a focus on simple, high-quality materials that will stand the test of time.
