Cassina
Cassina was established in 1927 by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina in northern Italy and today is world famous for its production of exclusive designer furniture. Since its inception, the company has been unique for its innovative drive and has collaborated with several of the world’s leading architects and designers.
Examples of such collaboration are with Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (Le Corbusier), Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Marco Zanuso.
In-house production of iconic designs
In 1964, Cassina took over production as the sole manufacturer of all Le Corbusier’s works. Le Corbusier’s creations include the famous classics LC1, LC2, LC3 and LC4, where the initials L and C stand for Le Corbusier. In the 1960s, they also began production of Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles Rennie Mackintosh designs. Along with a number of other designers, they are part of “I Maestri”, responsible for the production of the most iconic designs of the past. There you will find Wright’s chairs and tables in beautiful walnut or cherry wood.
The same collection includes 635 Red and Blue. A lounge chair designed in 1918 by German designer Gerrit Rietveld. The frame of the chair is made of black-painted birch, the seat is blue, the back is red and some details of the chair are painted yellow. The Utrecht lounge chair was also designed by Rietveld and is unique in its design, with the armrest becoming the front leg and the backrest becoming the back leg. The first edition of the chair was made of dark brown canvas, and Cassina began producing the chair in 1988, one hundred years after Rietveld’s birth.
Cassina has been an important player in the design industry for almost a century and today is responsible for the production of a large range of classic designer furniture. Cassina has a showroom in central Milan and has its headquarters and production in Brianza (just north of Milan). NO GA introduced Cassina back in the 1960s and has since visited the company on several occasions. Since 2015, legendary designer Patricia Urquiola has taken up the position of Creative Director at the company, maintaining Cassina’s high standards.
