Bruno Mathsson International

Furniture designer Bruno Mathsson was born in Värnamo in 1907, into the fourth generation of a family of carpenters, and learned the trade at a young age. The carpentry workshop mostly produced classic furniture, and Bruno Mathsson soon became interested in the possibilities of wood.

He quickly began to take an interest in functionalist ideals. Bruno Mathsson is considered by many to be the greatest Swedish designer of the 20th century. His consistent focus on seating comfort can be seen as one of the reasons for his fame. His own philosophy was that furniture should be made in a certain way for easy, comfortable sitting.
