Benjamin Hubert is an internationally recognized designer and the founder of the design studio Layer. With an impressive background in industrial design and technology, and with his studio based in London, Hubert has quickly established himself as a central figure in modern furniture and lighting design.
Benjamin Hubert 1984
Benjamin Hubert was born in the UK and has always had a strong interest in combining technology, materials, and human interaction in his designs. After studying industrial design and technology at Loughborough University, he began his career working for several established design studios before founding his own studio, Layer, in 2015. His vision has always been to create designs that are not only aesthetically appealing but also have deep functional meaning and a positive impact on people's daily lives.
Innovative furniture and lighting design
Throughout his career, Benjamin Hubert has collaborated with several internationally recognized brands such as Fritz Hansen, Orrefors, Moroso, and Muuto. His design philosophy is built around creating products that are not only beautiful to look at but also improve the user’s quality of life through smart and functional design. One example of his creative collaboration is Ensemble, a collection of two-piece vases and containers designed in partnership with Orrefors.
Another of these collaboration projects was with Muuto, where he designed the popular Strand Pendant Lamp Closed. This pendant lamp combines Scandinavian simplicity with a soft, diffused lighting effect, making it a perfect example of Hubert’s ability to create both functional and beautiful lighting. Hubert's work also includes design projects such as the Net Side Table for Moroso, a side table made from perforated steel with a geometric shape that showcases his experimental and material-driven approach. This table is an excellent example of how he creates products that are both eye-catching and functional.
Award-winning and sustainable design
A large part of Benjamin Hubert's work focuses on sustainability. By using recycled materials and new technology, he has developed furniture and lighting products that are not only visually appealing but also sustainable. Benjamin Hubert has received several international awards for his innovative designs and has exhibited his works at some of the world’s most prestigious design exhibitions.
