The Discovery ceiling and wall lamp from Artemide was designed by their founder Ernesto Gismondi in 2007. The lamp consists of a light ring in aluminum with a thin LED strip that adds light to the transparent Plexiglas surface. The surface has been treated with micro-particles so that it should not be sensitive when the lamp is off. Discovery has been developed so that the diffuser will provide a constant light emission via both direct and indirect light.
Gismondi wanted to produce as thin and narrow a ring as possible and then enlisted the help of bicycle wheel manufacturers. The result was the very pretty and thin Discovery lamp, which he himself says is almost invisible.
