The flower pot Riihitie Plant Pot is a design classic from Artek, originally created by Aino Aalto around the year 1937. This pot once adorned the terrace of the Aalto family's residence located on Riihitie in Helsinki. Aino Aalto's design philosophy, where she valued the importance of the small details as highly as the larger elements, is reflected in the pot's design. Although it was presented at the prestigious World Exhibition in Paris in 1937, the pot never went into mass production. On the occasion of Finland's 100th anniversary in 2017, Artek relaunched these iconic pots in their two original designs. Each pot is handmade in ceramic, a choice of material inspired by the tiles Alvar Aalto often used in his architectural works. These indoor pots are available in three different sizes. The colors white and blue, chosen for the pots, are taken from the ceramic tiles that adorn the facade of Aalto's summer cottage at Muuratsalo in Finland.
