The Eames RE Plastic Armchair RAR is a rocking chair designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames. The plastic seat is mounted on a steel and maple base. Choose from several seat and frame designs. The Eames multifunctional Plastic Chairs were first introduced at the “Low Cost Furniture Design” design competition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1950. Charles and Ray presented organically designed plastic chair seats that were combined with different bases, giving these pieces of furniture a multitude of different functions and purposes. Today, the legendary Eames RE Plastic Chairs are manufactured by Vitra, which has revised the models’ design and materials for even higher seating comfort and quality. Since 2024, the shells of all Eames Plastic Chairs have been made from one hundred percent recycled plastic. The recycled plastic comes from collecting plastic packaging from German households, in the “Yellow Bag” collection program, and is of premium quality. Using recycled raw materials instead of petroleum-based primary plastic means that climate-damaging emissions are significantly reduced, as is primary energy consumption. The shell is of course recyclable at the end of its product life.
