Ron Arad is an Israeli furniture and industrial designer, architect and artist. Arad was born in 1951 in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Israeli National Art School, the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and at the Architectural Association in London. In 1994, Arad designed his famous Bookworm bookcase, which is still manufactured by the Italian company Kartell.
Arad's works often feature biomorphic forms, i.e. artistic design elements in naturally occurring shapes, and most are in steel. Arad is diligent in all his professional fields. In 2010, he planned Israel's first design museum, the Design Museum Holon.
In 2009 he created a perfume bottle for KENZO, in 2005 he designed lanterns for Swarovski that can display SMS messages through LED light. Between 1997 and 2009, he was Head of the Design Products Department at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1994 he established Ron Arad Studio, a design and production department in Como, Italy. He has had his work exhibited in several renowned museums and is frequently featured in popular design magazines. Many of Arad's works can be found at NO GA.
