PK80 is a daybed designed in 1957 by Poul Kjærholm for Fritz Hansen. The mattress is soft but firm, made of hairlok with a foam core. The upholstery is available in natural-colored canvas or leather in several different colors. The cushion rests on a base plate of painted plywood and the legs are made of satin-polished steel. PK80 fits perfectly with Kjærholm's PK31 series. The inspiration behind the design comes from Bauhaus, which in turn was inspired by ancient Roman sofas. In PK80, Kjærholm has interpreted history and combined grand design with the absolute necessities of a rest furniture, the result was this minimalist daybed. In 2004, the Museum of Modern Art in New York chose to furnish its galleries with the daybed, which gave PK80 a given place in design history.
