The Droppen was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958, especially for the Sas Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and is produced by Fritz Hansen. Originally, only 150 pieces were created, and it was only in recent years that the Droppen would begin to be produced in larger editions. But thanks to Jacobsen's timeless design language, the design feels as relevant today as when it was launched. The Droppen is available in several versions, here without upholstery in a wide range of colors.

The chair's elegant shell is made in one piece, made of durable ABS plastic with nylon reinforcement on the inside. Just as the name suggests, the chair is teardrop-shaped, with a pointed top and rounded seat. The legs are neat and made of steel tubing. For this version of the Droppen, the legs can be chrome-plated or powder-coated in the same color as the shell.

The SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen opened in 1960 and is often referred to as the world's first design hotel, and also Denmark's first skyscraper. Arne Jacobsen designed the interior here, including the Droppen, whose softly rounded shell contrasted with the hotel's more austere architecture. Jacobsen was responsible for the full design concept down to the smallest detail, from the outdoor facade and the furniture to the cutlery in the restaurant. The SAS Royal Hotel has therefore come to be called Jacobsen's all-round work of art. Several design icons were introduced and put Danish design on the world map. It is also said that the Droppen was Jacobsen's personal favorite piece of furniture.
