There’s a lot to be said for the emotive power of light. It’s memory, mood, warmth. In the world of interiors, light becomes a dynamic presence – one that moves with the rhythm of the day and deepens with the night.
Shaping the way we experience space, well-placed lighting transforms a room, infusing it with personality and purpose. A sculptural table lamp might cast a gentle glow over your favorite reading nook, while a chandelier becomes the halo illuminating those treasured family dinners.
Lamps are not isolated objects. They interact with each other and their surroundings. The key is layering – combining ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a mood, an atmosphere, and ultimately, a home.
Get creative with light. Embrace imperfection. Let shadows dance across textured walls. Position lamps at unconventional angles or heights. Place soft pools of light where they meet the natural glow of dawn. Let the light itself lead the way: a beam cutting across the ceiling, a subtle glow spilling over a windowsill, or a sharp accent highlighting an unexpected detail. It’s time to bring your vision to life.
Discover our curated collection of lighting at 15% off, including the best new design arrivals and classics that you can spot from a mile away. Ends 3 March at midnight.
Ceiling lights
Ceiling lights are the crown jewels that anchor the space. Opt for designs that complement the daylight rather than overpower it. When evening comes, use dimmers to create a smooth transition from day to night.
Table lamps
Table lamps are perfect for adding subtle touches of light that bring focus to a desk, a book, or an intimate conversation. Think of bedside tables, entry consoles, or even a kitchen counter.
Floor lamps
Standing tall, floor lamps help create balance in a room. Use them to create focal points in underutilized corners or to enhance seating arrangements. Adjustable designs are perfect for directing light onto art or bookshelves, adding depth and character to your decor.
Wall lamps
Wall lamps can be bold, yet they are often understated – until they are switched on. Frame doorways with an understated glow, illuminate artwork with precision, or guide the way through dimly lit hallways.
1940s design America belonged to the husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames, whose playful and experimental approach to design created a whole new topology of furniture in innovative materials. The couple also designed their home, a modernist gem in Pacific Palisades, with room for great personality.
