Zanotta
Zanotta was established by Aurelio Zanotta in 1954 and quickly established itself on both the Italian and international markets. The brand’s products stand out for their original ideas and playful designs.
Today Zanotta is considered one of the great protagonists in the history of Italian industrial design. In 1968, Zanotta launched the iconic Saco seat, which many people today strongly associate with the brand. The designers behind it are Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro. The Saco beanbag became a huge success and is still in production.
Handmade designer furniture with a traditional twist
In 1989, Zanotta created the “Zanotta Edizioni” collection, which became a significant milestone in the development of the brand and introduced a completely new brand philosophy. Zanotta’s products are now produced almost entirely by hand - partly to avoid the constraints of mass production, but also to allow the designers to revive several traditions of Italian craftsmanship. The prevailing post-modernist drive is reflected in Zanotta’s products, which incorporate decorative elements and traditional craftsmanship such as mosaics and inlays.
Zanotta has produced a number of design classics over the years. In addition to the Saco beanbag, it also launches design icons new and old in its collections. Examples include the William sofa from 2010, the Scangai table in wood from 1973, and the Spillo table from 2012. The company is proud to continue its collaborations with fingertip sensitivity and is working on a series of projects with designers including Achille Castiglioni, Gae Aulenti, Marco Zanuso, Joe Colombo, Alfredo Haberli, Werner Asslinger and Ettore Sottsass - one of the leading exponents of postmodernist design and founder of the Memphis Group.
Today, Zanotta exports to more than 60 countries worldwide. You’ll also find their designs represented in some of the world’s most prestigious museums. These include MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum, Centre Pompidou, the London Design Museum, and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.
