In 1951, Isamu Noguchi began designing Akari Light Sculptures, a group of lamps made from Shoji paper. The light from the Akari lamps is filtered through the magical shoji paper with the aim of giving a sense of the natural and warm light from the sun, which fills our rooms at night when it is needed.
