As one of the most identifiable British icons in lighting design, Mirror Ball by Tom Dixon is a pendant lamp that reflects its surroundings and emits ambient light. Inspired by retro disco balls and an astronaut's space helmet, Mirror Ball was created in 2002. Mirror Ball is a light but sturdy pendant made from polycarbonate and then coated with thin layers of metals that are vacuum formed to give the body its mirror-like finish.Tom Dixon's aim was to create a completely spherical object that would blend into its surroundings thanks to its mirror-like surface. The failure was a major achievement for Dixon. Mirror Ball is an ultra-visible object that creates reflection, providing a wide beam of light from the lower transparent part of the lamp.
