Örsjö Belysning was established in Småland in 1948. Early on, Örsjö produced, among other things, accessories for the glass industry. A partnership with IKEA began in the early 1950s, and the company began to produce lamps for private homes. Helmer Andersson was taken on as an engineer and designer, and designed, among other things, electric kerosene lamps. Andersson also designed the classic Edward, which became a major success. Lamps with glass from Böhlmark-Pukeberg were also a success, and Örsjö Industri is the sole supplier of Orrefors lighting glass.
Örsjö Belysning has been producing exclusive lamps together with leading Scandinavian designers and creators with a focus on function, personality, and Scandinavian innovation since its inception. In 1994, Örsjö came under new ownership, and its name was changed to Örsjö Belysning in 2000.
Big investment in innovative designers
Working with Jonas Bohlin, a venture is being carried out with exclusive designer lamps by the name of Norrsken. The project involves Claesson Koivisto Rune, Jonas Bohlin, Formbyrå 4, Mats Theselius, and a school class from Nybro. The project was to be the start of the lighting design development. Baklava by Eero Koivisto was part of Claesson Koivisto Rune’s design assignment for the fashionable Nobis Hotel in Stockholm. In 2003, Jonas Bohlin designed the interior of the Teatergrillen bar, characterized by an intimate atmosphere and exquisite design. The Karamell lamp sparkles above the tables, and the bar counter was specially designed by Jonas Bohlin. In 2002, Matti Klenell was hired as designer and guide. Matti redesigned the old Basic model into the modern Mushroom. In 2003, Matti Klenell received the Kapoor Prize as the best design object at the Stockholm Furniture Fair.
In 2007, Örsjö Belysning was exhibited in Milan for the first time. Since then it has been a faithful exhibitor every two years, when the Euroluce International Lighting Exhibition takes place. During the summer of 2014, the company moved from its home in Stockholm to its new, light-and-airy premises in Nybro. Peter Hjalmarsson took over the role of owner in 2016, and Örsjö Belysning continues its investment in eco-friendly lighting. During February 2017, Örsjö Belysning was represented at the Stockholm furniture and lighting fair.
