Konstantin Grcic 1965
Konstantin Grcic is a German industrial and furniture designer whose designs belong to the minimalist and functionalist school. He studied cabinetmaking at The John Makepeace School in England and later design at the Royal College of Art. Since 1991 he has had his own studio, Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design or KGID, based in Munich.
Grcic's products are described as simple, reduced and industrial and this is precisely what characterises his design. However, Grcic himself wants to talk about simplicity and nothing else. He has won several prestigious awards and has designed furniture and luminaires for many of the world's leading design companies, including Cassina, Magis, ClassiCon and Flos.
In 2004, Gric was commissioned to design several limited edition pieces for Galerie kreo in Paris. His work is also part of the permanent exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) has named Konstantin Grcic "Honorary Royal Designer for Industry (Hon RDI) and in 2010 he was awarded "Designer of the Year" by Design Miami.
Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms. He combines formality with considerable mental acuity and humour. Each of his products is characterised by the story behind the design and his passion for technology and materials.
Many of the products are sold here at NO GA. He designed a series of glasses for Absolut Vodka that were introduced at NO GA.
